Mark Maleitzke—Head of DevOps, Petco

DevOps Transformation at Petco

Learn what it means to take an organization on the DevOps journey.  How do you plan for such an epic journey?  How do you get the management team and organization to break old habits and form new ones?  Mark will address these questions and many more as he walks through the DevOps transformation at Petco.

Ed Bukoski—Senior Software Engineer, Developer Productivity, Netflix

Continuously Integrating Distributed Code at Netflix

Three years ago, Netflix migrated all of its source code to Git for version control. This change furthered the independence of engineering teams, enabling them to manage, build, test and deploy with little friction. But the more distributed source code becomes, the harder it can be to assess the impact of a change or understand the state of the world. Making a simple change to a shared library could have an impact to dozens of critical services. The more feedback engineers can gain, the better. But how do you run an expensive operation against every single git repository within your organization?

In this talk, Ed will share the story of Niagara, a service built to test code changes across all potentially impacted Git repositories at Netflix. He will also share an approach to scaling up Atlassian Bitbucket to handle Niagara’s significant demands.

Stephen Kuenzli—Founder of QualiMente

Delivering Modern Infrastructure with Less Drama

Lots of teams are migrating their infrastructure to the cloud, but do you really have a good idea of what you’re getting into?  In this talk, we will explore the key elements of team design, infrastructure delivery process, and methods to deliver high quality infrastructure in the Cloud -- and maybe even your current environment.

Key Questions:

  1. What business problems are we solving?
  2. How do we organize and prepare our teams to migrate?
  3. How should our infrastructure delivery and relationships between teams change when migrating?
  4. What are the key methods for maximizing probability of success and managing business risk?

A Cloud migration presents great opportunity, but also a bewildering number of choices and significant organizational and engineering challenges.  Do you need Full Stack Engineers? SREs?  Netflix's tools? Google's?  What are the differences?  Which are right for you?

This talk will help you understand the forces at play and provide tools for transforming your organization’s structure and processes to meet business challenges.
