What Do DevOps & Baseball Have in Common?

At first glance, you might think, well…nothing. But Isos Technology is here to tell you that DevOps and baseball have more in common than you might think! Both require teamwork, strategy, and a razor-sharp focus on the execution and delivery of goals.

DevOps and baseball have another very important thing in common. They’re both prominently featured in Isos Technology’s upcoming, one-of-a-kind event called “If You Build It, They Will Deploy: Join Us for a Day of DevOps & Baseball.” You won’t want to miss this informative and fun event, which will take place on March 16that the Phoenix Marriott Tempe at The Buttes in Tempe, AZ.

We’ll have several guest speakers on hand (from internationally-known companies like Netflix and Petco) to deliver enlightening presentations about how Atlassian’s products—like Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, and HipChat—can help your company build and operate a DevOps culture. Between Atlassian’s toolset and the information we’ll share about DevOps best practices and strategies, we’ll have you batting 1,000 with quicker release times, better management of unplanned work, and faster resolution of critical issues that compromise productivity and stall progress.

Space for this unique and awesome event is limited, so…

Go the distance with Isos Technology! We promise that we’ll help you make your DevOps dreams a reality!

Add-On Spotlight of the Month: HelloSign for Confluence

If you’ve read any of our previous newsletters (and we hope you have!), you’ll recall that–each month–we feature cool, innovative add-ons for the Atlassian toolset that we love. This month, we’re going to feature an add-on that we’re quite partial to…HelloSign for Confluence. The reason we dig this add-on so much is because, well…it’s ours. But also, it’s just a really cool and useful app that can make your life a lot easier if your team uses HelloSign for processing and distributing legally-binding documents.

HelloSign for Confluence allows users to create a Confluence document and embed all of the fields and forms available from the HelloSign API within that document. This eliminates the need to manually upload the Confluence document into HelloSign and physically send it to the requested signers. Instead, Confluence users can generate a document—whether it’s a contract, agreement, tax form, or the like—and directly push it out for signatures. Once the document is signed, it will automatically return to Confluence. Cool, huh? For more information, check out our page on the Atlassian Marketplace.

Atlassian Toolset = Golden Ticket

Our goals for February at Isos are probably fairly similar to those at your workplace: Provide excellent customer service, get or stay organized, focus on short- and long-term goals, and maintain good communication with other associates and departments. Here at Isos, we’ve discovered the “golden ticket” for achieving those goals, which comes in the form of the Atlassian toolset! Jira and Confluence have been lifesavers for our company. The custom workflows, collaborative editing, and document management that these products offer has been nothing short of a miracle.

If you’re already an Atlassian veteran, then you know what I say is true…that the Atlassian toolset will change your life, your job and your company! And if you’re an Atlassian newbie and are interested in learning more about these products, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I hope to hear from you soon!

Cheers,

Jira Tip of the Month: Don’t Use the Default Scheme for Anything!

Whether your Jira instance is right out of the box or has been around for awhile, you should make of copy of each default scheme (field config/workflow/ permissions/etc.) as soon as possible. For example, to copy the default issue type scheme do the following:

  1. Type “Default Issue Type Scheme”
  2. Copy the scheme that is returned to a descriptive name, such as “My Org Default Issue Type Scheme.”
  3. Switch any projects using the default scheme to use your newly-minted copy.

Why would you want to use a copy of the default scheme? If any Jira admins start to add custom fields, workflows or other Jira objects, your existing Jira projects using the new scheme will not be “contaminated.” Also, if you need to merge Jira instances in the future, having your projects use custom schemes instead of default schemes will help prevent merge conflicts.
