You might not know this because with shows like Sillicon Valley glamorizing the world of tech there is actually a shortage of IT in businesses. In a 2016 survey from IT outsourcer Harvey Nash and auditing firm KPMG, 65 percent of chief information officers (CIOs) and other business leaders said that recruitment issues were harming IT modernization efforts. The issue of not being able to source IT talent is a growing problem.

… not to mention the shortage of women in tech is staggering. Technology is the only STEM discipline where the participation of women has declined in the past 20 years. Recruiting women seems like an obvious solution not only to strengthen numbers but to offer a different perspective in the workplace.

Studies show that greater gender diversity in technology can impact businesses’ bottom lines. Higher gender diversity teams have better returns and lower volitatly. These teams have outperformed companies with low diversity. Women can be more effective leaders. This can have a direct impact on employee development and performance.

If your organization or company doesn’t have many females working, consider implanting gender diversity to technology. This is how you can achieve this challenging task:

  • Be sure your hiring process is fair and balanced. Check job postings for gendered wording and anything else that might send the wrong message.
  • Allow women in your company to also interview and hire people. Let them sit on a panel and be part of the decision. This can also create a desirable factor for women to see strong female representation at your company.
